Welcome to week six of Sunday School! 

The following are some pertinent information for you:

MEC Sunday School Open House: Oct. 15th, 11:30a-12:30p, banquet hall. Come to hear from the Admin about Sunday School and speak to department heads and faculty about our various subjects and programs. There will be a Departmental Table Competition! Come and vote for the best table!  Please see the attached flyer. 

Please note: there will be no book sales this day. 

PTO Elections
Information about upcoming PTO elections will be shared at Open House. Br. Abdullah Alaidroos is spearheading the election. Please contact him with any questions at abdullah.alaidroos@mecsundayschool.org
Candidate campaigning from Oct. 15th-Oct. 29th. Elections will be held Nov. 5th. 

School Picture Day
Oct. 29th is School Picture Day. Please have your students come dressed in Islamic-appropriate outfits. 

Phone and Electronic Devices
We have had a number of incidents where students have used phones during their school day. Phones are not allowed unless specially required for a class assignment or project. If a student is using their phone without permission, it will be confiscated for the duration of the school day, and they will need to retrieve it from the office. Repeated offenses will result in detention. We have also had students bringing in Switch devices and other electronics. These are not permitted during school hours. MEC Sunday School will not be liable for the loss or theft of any electronic device. Please have your students refrain from bringing in any such devices. 

Tardiness
It has been reported by a number of teachers of students arriving late to class. We understand there may be circumstances in which parents may be running late, but chronic tardiness will not be tolerated. It is highly disruptive to the teacher and class to have students arriving late and is also detrimental to the student’s education. Every minute is valuable for our students. It is imperative for parents to make every attempt to get students to school on time. Students are expected to arrive at 10 a.m. in the gym.
First-period classes start at 10:15 a.m. 

Assembly Changes
Assembly is a short period of time for us to connect with our students and staff regarding school matters and prepare them for their day, and distractions from parents are hindering this. Parents of only kindergarten and first grade will be allowed for assembly so their students can get acclimated. All other parents will drop their students and leave.

Internal Qirat Competition
MEC Sunday School will hold its annual Internal-Qirat Competition on Dec. 3rd. Tajweed teachers are responsible for selecting the students to participate in the competition.  They will be conducting their selection over the next few weeks.  Please help your child prepare for this in-class selection process.  If your child is selected to participate in the competition, you will be informed by email.  If you have any questions, please contact your child’s Tajweed teacher, or Aziz Ali, Head of the Tajweed Department at aziz.ali@mecsundayschool.org, or MEC Sunday School Principal at principal@mecsundayschool.org.

Unregistered Students
If your student is not registered, they will not be permitted to sit in class. Please confirm registration before dropping off your students, especially Kindergarten and First grade. 

Reusable Water Bottles
We will have limited water bottles to encourage our students to use reusable water bottles. So please send a reusable water bottle with your student.
