Hadith: Prophet Muhammad (S) said: Convey my teachings to the people, even if it were a single sentence… (Bukhari)
Welcome to week two of Sunday School!
The following are some pertinent information for you:
*Our school’s theme this year is Communication: How to Follow the Sunnah and improve our communication. *Please share this with your students to take a moment to think before speaking and becoming self-aware of how our words affect others and present us to the world. Think about how we can follow the Sunnah of the Prophet (SAW) in our communication.
Assembly *Parents of kindergarteners and First-graders may attend assembly to help their students acclimate to the environment. All other parents please drop your students off. *Assembly starts at 10 am. *When in assembly, please remain silent so we can start immediately. It is important we get our students prepped for their day and off to their classes. Distractions from parents delay this.
Punctuality We have to be good examples for our students; therefore, it is incumbent on parents to be on time when dropping off students. We will start marking tardies starting 9/17. All students are to be at school at 10 am in the gym for assembly.
Book Sales The online MEC Sunday School bookstore is available for you to purchase your student’s book. Please use the following link:
We will be at the school on Saturday, 9/16, from 5:30pm-8pm for book pick-ups. You will receive an email receipt after your purchase. Please have your online book purchase receipt available when picking up your books.
Appropriate Attire Please make sure your student is dressed in Islamically-appropriately clothing for the weather. All students must wear clean socks and closed-toed shoes.
Reusable Water Bottles We will have limited water bottles to encourage our students to use reusable water bottles. So please send a reusable water bottle with your student.

Prophet Muhammad never complained about food. If he liked something, he would eat it. If he disliked it, he would leave it. (Bukhari)
Have you all checked out yet? We understand end-of-year fatigue is real. It’s that time when the school year is winding down and parents sometimes check out sooner than the students. This results in a lax approach to students’ school life (missing classes, not checking emails for updates, etc.) However, we only have a few weeks left. Your student’s attendance and work matter. Sunday School attendance matters more so because we meet only once a week. A lot weighs in on that one day of instruction. Every class is vital to provide students with strategic lessons and a lot of care and planning go into this schedule. It doesn’t make sense for students to throw away all the effort and work of an entire year in the last few weeks and risk not passing.
We expect students to report for assembly by 10:05 am. By 10:15 am they are in class. There are a number of concerns we’re facing: 1. Students not showing up for school or chronic tardiness 2. Students not turning in work 3. Students trying to exit the school or masjid without permission 4. Students committing vandalism in classrooms
We rely on you, parents, to help maintain and augment the lessons students learn in Sunday School throughout the week and come prepared on Sundays. Please take a moment to ask your students about their day and lessons, and get involved. Studies have shown that involved parents have higher-achieving students. Encourage your students to end the year on a high note.
We also invite parents to get involved in Sunday School by volunteering. We especially need support during Dhuhr salah to help keep students safe and organized. Prophet Muhammad (S) would recite on Laylatul Qadr: Oh Allah you certainly love to forgive so forgive me. (Tirmidhi)
Absences and Tardiness Of late, we’ve noticed an increase in student absences and tardiness. Many parents have also contacted us asking if we’re still in session for Ramadan. We understand this is the time of year in which students fall into a slump. Most are recovering from spring breaks while awaiting the summer holidays, so these interim days weigh heavy. Firstly, we are in session throughout Ramadan. Your students are expected to participate in charitable events in the blessed month of Ramadan to help them learn the importance of giving to others. Therefore, we will only break for Eid, April 23rd. Secondly, your student(s) must regularly attend because absences and tardiness will affect their performance and grades. Unless there is a valid reason for being tardy or absent, every student is expected to attend Sunday School on time. Do not let your student’s education falter.
Grades By now, you should have received your student’s midterm grades. We appreciate your patience while we sorted out technical issues regarding the midterm grades. Please directly contact your student’s teachers for any issues or questions.
